If tornados weren't so destructive they would just be beautiful & fascinating. Mother nature is amazing!
People really like this picture. I can tell because of how often people make up stuff about it. For the record, this storm was in ORCHARD, IOWA on JUNE 10, 2008. Meteorologists who have viewed this image generally agree that it pictures a mesocyclone with a wall cloud, not a true tornado. http://www.snopes.com/photos/natural/iowatornado.asp This was NOT Moore, OK or Greensburg, KS or any other town in Kansas or a Boy Scout ranch near Blencoe, Iowa. Those are all fiction.
Science Project Idea: Amazing Natural Disasters :: Tornadoes Super excited to include this at summer camp!
A huge tornado funnel cloud touches down in Orchard, Iowa, at 9:04 p.m. on June 10, 2008. The Globe Gazette and Mitchell County Press News reported that Lori Mehmen of Orchard took the photo from outside her front door.

Kansas Wheat. "When they realized women were using their sacks to make clothes for their children, the mills started using flowered fabric for their sacks so the kids would have pretty clothes." It says that the labels would also wash out. Awesome.

Old Photos: Kansas Wheat. I read that when they realized women were using their sacks to make clothes for their children, the mills started using flowered fabric for their sacks so the kids would have pretty clothes. Pure kindness. I also read that the label would wash out. Awesome. I remember flour sack dresses!
When they realized women were using their sacks to make clothes for their children, flour mills started using flowered fabric for their sacks. The label was designed to wash out. 1939 Kansas Wheat… When WWII hit, it amped up and it wasn’t just children wearing them. Apparel fabrics were rationed, but flour sack fabric wasn’t. Flour companies started competing to see who can make the prettiest, most appealing flour sack flower print.

Kansas railroads began with the quest to link the east to the west. They made the land valuable, built cities and dwarfed others. A lot of history and progress for our nation started with this iron!

Railroad history in Kansas is fascinating, particularly the construction race between three railroads, rushing to get to Indian Territory where the winner was to get free land grants and access to Texas, cattle country.
