Navajo Codetalker, Roy Hawthorne USMC~ This elder walked a two mile parade route. Two Navajo Marines helped him through the last half mile. Much honor and respect.

“This picture is  taken at the beach in Santa Barbara right next to the pier. There is a veterans group that started putting a crossand candle for every death in Iraq and Afghanistan . The amazing thing is that they only do it on theweekends.  They put up this graveyard andtake it down every weekend. Guys sleep in the sand next to it and keep watch overit at night so nobody messes with it. Every cross has the name, rank and D.O.B. andD.O.D.  on it.”

Although wounded by seven AK-47 rounds and hit by more than 43 pieces of hot fragmentation from a grenade while using his body to shield an injured fellow Marine, Kasal refused to quit fighting and saved the lives of several Marines during the U.S. assault on insurgent strongholds in Fallujah in November 2004. By the time he was carried out of the house by LCpl Marquez and LCpl Shaffer, he had lost approx 60% of his blood. Blood-soaked and still holding his M9 pistol and KA-Bar fighting…
