Cherry blossoms adorn the Tidal Basin in West Potomac Park throughout the spring season. The first cherry blossom tree was planted on March 27, 1912 by First Lady Helen Taft and Viscountess Chinda, wife of the Japanese ambassador. The two original trees still stand to this day.
