Freeman House, Frank Lloyd Wright, Hollywood, California, 1923 — Julius Shulman This home, which is currently owned by USC School of Architecture, was damaged pretty extensively in the 1994 Northridge earthquake. When I toured the Freeman House back in 2006, it was in depressing shape and sadly not much has changed.

The process of creating our book which began with a team meeting in November 2013 turned into something none of us expected or was exactly prepared for. We thought the toughest part of the job was selecting the 13 projects to be featured out of the 13 years worth of work we have done. We expected a straight forward process of selecting images and colours and submitting it to the publisher, like when we requested a black background with white text and drawings. But reality was that we needed to select which paper to print the black on and in what shade and with what type of lamination. We went through samples after samples to get it right and the same process for every inch of the book. An intensive 10 months of daily communication, decision-making, reviewing layouts, designing, writing, and editing followed. We invite you to look back at a part of this journey. IMG_8039

SEAL ROCKS SHACK FEATURED IN HOUSES MAGAZINE / JANUARY 23, 2015 If you are looking for a read over the long weekend please check out the new Houses issue, it features our Seal Rocks Shack project. The family, myself included, did a spot of amateur modelling for the shoot. The house is really sweet to stay in and it was one of those dream projects with a great client and great builder! I kept a surfboard onsite for the duration, so those site visits could be combined with a few sessions out Treachery and Lighthouse. Thanks to Brett Boardman, as always, for his considered photography. image1.JPG

Beautiful Ugly: The Architectural Photography of John Gollings: Joe Rollo: 9780500500316: Books - .For more than 40 years John Gollings has been the photographer of choice the go-to guy for scores of architects. A Gollings photograph reveals a great deal about the aspirations, aims and beliefs, and the zeitgeist of a building and its architects intentions. This is based on and expressed through Gollings' own knowledge of architecture; his understanding of light and weather; and the way buildings work and how they inhabit their sites. Beautiful Ugly takes a look in words, pictures and recollections at the art of Gollings' photography as he has made his remarkable journey around Australias architectural landscape.

Transformational Thought by Jason F. McLennan is a dynamic collection of provocative essays that critically challenge the design practices and thinking that are interwoven within our contemporary cultural, societal, personal value systems. Rather than an ominous commentary about the terminal shortcomings of society, McLennan relates his architectural acumen and his eclectic knowledge of sustainability, proposing an intelligent, and sometimes radical rethinking of how we live, work, and plan for a living future.
