chickens in their DIY chicken tunnel. We live in a residential area, so to keep the chickens protected from hawks, dogs and other predators (and to keep them out of our neighbor's yard) we hook up their portable play-pen to the run and let them range.

Now THIS is low-input farming. Let the chickens do all the hard work of tilling and fertilizing!

Soapy water can help eliminate pests. A comment: When the going gets tough, add some Listerine type mouth wash and a bit of water that I soaked chewing tobacco in.
