Violet crowned woodnymph hummingbird
Violetear Hummingbird. Of genus Colibri, a med. to lg species found in Mexico, & Central & northern S. America. The Green Violetear occasionally wanders north as far as the US & even Canada. They have rounded tails & short-medium black bills. 3 of the 4 species have mainly green plumage. Males have a violet blue patch running back & down from the eye, which is erected when they are excited, & a glittering throat patch. The female looks like the male, but the ear & throat patches are smaller.
