This was a fantastic book by Shilpi Somaya Gowda.  A young mother in India is forced to give her daughter up for adoption, in order to save the baby's life.  The baby girl is adopted by an American couple.  The story chronicles the lives of both birth- and adoptive- mothers.  It is an absolutely wonderful book.
