The Dressmaker of Khair Khana, by Gayle Tzemach Lemmon. I didn't feel like the author succeeded in bringing the characters in this book to life. Each character had one defining characteristic and nobody grew or changed - the plucky sister was always plucky, the careful sister was always careful, etc. It was hard to care about such flat characters. The story it’s based on sounds amazing, but it read like a summary of events, not a novel.
