Mom was meticulous about storing things away in mothballs....a habit I have had ever since...once I pack my winter wardrobe away in April, the moth packets go in...and no holes come the fall. Those old habits die hard. However, even with the mothballs, we still had some sneakers and wool shirts would get holes. But I will buy cheap holey cashmere sweaters...and love wearing them around the house.
Mom was influenced by the taste of others...including my Aunt Carolyn, who was married to Uncle Sonny. Aunt Carolyn adored Japanese taste, and featured some of it her home. There were small tiles, and oriental motifs throughout the home that mom commented as "liking A LOT." However, mom did not ever incorporate Japanese style into her home--but she did love Chinoiserie for which I have also inherited a love.
