Joan Crawford in Rose-Marie, 1928. Rose-Marie was a 1928 drama film directed by Lucien Hubbard. It is the first of three MGM adaptations of the 1924 Broadway musical. Rudolf Friml and Herbert Stothart's original score for the Broadway musical was not used for this silent film. It was filmed on location at Yosemite Nat'l Park. Joan Crawford, who starred, alongside James Murray, later remarked, "Rose Marie was surprisingly good without the music." This film is considered lost.

Early on she determined to become a good actress and credited doing so not only to actors and directors but to lighting technicians and grips.
