May is National Foster Care Awareness Month. It focuses on the 400,000 children in the foster care system in this country, including hundreds right here in East Texas. It's purpose is to raise awareness about the lack of foster homes. One local family says becoming foster parents changed their lives.
Korban is a smart and polite 7-year-old. "He's very loving. He's very cuddly. He would bring a lot to a family. He loves being part of a family and wants that very much," said Shayla Ballew, his Child Protective Services Caseworker.
The goal of the statewide initiative is to empower people to create healthy action, collaboration and change in their communities. That change is already happening at Rice Elementary in TISD with a marathon-sized challenge from a P.E. teacher.
These burger pack some heat so I decided to do my taste buds a favor and make them into small sliders. Surprisingly, they weren't quite hot enough for some of my friends who truly love spicy foods. The cool creaminess of the cheese and mayonnaise and the neutral flavor of the bun cut much of the heat.
