The May issue of Negro Digest, United States, 1969, published by Johnson Publishing Company. Negro Digest started life during WWII as a black counterpart to the American version of Reader's Digest, but eventually shuttered. It was revived in the late 1960s and later renamed Black World, becoming an important curator of international black culture and art, before abruptly ceasing publication in 1976 to great protest in the black American arts community.
