    An old dresser is painted, decoupaged with paper, sanded at the edges, stained to darken the paper, then sealed. This is a good technique to use on a damaged piece of furniture or when the veneer is chipping. Link shows no DIY, but has pictures of the steps.

    I used this technique to decorate the fronts of my cupboard. Who knew that a little drywall compound could be used so beautifully?

    Find an old frame, paint it and take it to your neighborhood glass shop to have new mirror installed.

    painted using a "Waxed Paint" technique. Annie used French Linen, which is a dark grey, then brushed on a layer of clear wax. Over this, and before the wax had completely dried, she added a second, paler coat of paint (a color wash) made from a mix of Paris Grey and Old White, thinned down with water, wiping it over with a clean, dry cloth to create a washed, dragged, and distressed effect.
