"Trinket Box" quilt
I was excited to recieve the latest Australian Homespun. Inside is a beautiful quilt called Trinket Box by Rebecca Johnson of Chasing Cottons. This is the quilt I helped her out with last year. Bec is pregnant and at the time of making the quilt she was so unwell with all day sickness, the poor thing, she couldn't even sit upright. Bec had a deadline for this quilt so I helped her get it finished and in on time. It's very exciting to see something you have worked on in a magazine. There is a really nice article about Bec and how she came into quilting and quilt designing. It's a good read and makes you thankful for all that you have. You can also read Bec's story on her blog. Since doing this quilt I have 2 of my own quilts that have been accepted to be published later this year. One in Homespun and one in Quilters Companion. I can't wait to see them in print. Happy Quilting Leanne xo

The quilt was pieced. If you try this on your own, make sure not to sew the strips of fabric together in a rectangular shape, otherwise you will have a lot of waste. Sew them together offset, like steps. Keep in mind that you’ll need the stepped strip sets (say that ten times fast!) going in two different directions to make this pattern.

Why, yes. My son most certainly does need another navy and white quilt. Why do you ask? After finishing the houndstooth quilt, I made this zig zag chevron quilt for Henry in May and scheduled a post about it on May 25, Henry’s birthday. I had planned to finish binding it the week Henry was born. Needless …

Baby quilt idea
Today I've been working on the back for the baby quilt from my last post. I'm trying to make a concerted effort to label all of my quilts, at very least the ones that are gifts. My friend Wendy, the secretary for the LA Modern Quilt Guild, gave a very entertaining yet informative talk on the importance of labeling your quilts at a recent guild meeting. She actually had a family member leave a quilt on a plane that was later returned because it was so well labeled. That's pretty impressive. For this quilt I'm using a technique I learned from Wendy. I picked a nice font, typed up my label and printed it on paper. Then, because I don't have a lightbox like Wendy, I used nature's lightbox (the sun) and taped the paper to my window with the label fabric on top of it and traced the text. I used a micron pen (they're waterproof), then heat set it with my iron. I love that it almost looks printed, just enough to mess with your head, but so much neater than my regular handwriting!
First: a huge thank you for all of your comments on the Emmy. You all are the best and It's nice to be able to share some of the non-quilting in my life. Second: Last night I attended the first ever meeting of the LA Modern Quilt Guild. It was a great meeting full of amazing ladies and I'm so excited to meet like minded quilters in this area. If you live around here (or are willing to drive to LA) check out the guild. It looks to be a guild like no other, in a very good way! Third: Remember this guy? Probably not because I started it two and a half years ago. The plan was to hand quilt circles all over this mother. I worked on it some, my hand-quilting sucked. It wasn't fun. So it was put away. Well, two and a half years later I have resurrected this quilt from obscurity. I actually had to search for it when I decided to do this. The hand-quilting was out. It's not my style and I'm just not interested. So I ripped it all out. One of the reasons I didn't do this sooner is because I couldn't really think of a style of quilting that would work better than additional bubbles. Which is weird because once I came up with this straight lines idea, I liked it so much better! Maybe that's just my 2009 tastes compared to my 2007 tastes. Perhaps I'm less literal now. So, if you weren't around back then and you want to read about this quilt's beginnings you can go right ahead!

How far along? 32 Weeks, entering my eighth month, ALMOST THERE! Maternity clothes? Still sportin them. This week I tried to find a costume for Halloween this Thursday. I'll be dressing up at work. It is a HUGE deal in my office. There will be plenty of pictures to come. Sleep: Feeling pretty lucky that I am still sleeping good, I've heard it gets pretty bad at the end. Best moment this week: The weekend! Work has been so busy lately that I'm reminded how grateful I am for the weekends. Also it gives me time to do more baby prep. Food cravings: I've been craving eggs over medium, you know where the yolk is all runny. And that's a no no so for now I've been sticking with scrambled but daydreaming about my sourdough toast and runny yolk eggs on top... 8 weeks. Looking forward to: Halloween! We are hoping the weather cools down enough so that we can have a little firepit going in the driveway and pass out candy to all the kids in the neighborhood. And if we have a firepit you know what that means, S'mores :) Baby item of the week: I've been looking at blankets for the crib this week and am having kind of a tough time finding the one. Here are a few I like. Diamond White Quilt Sergeant Pepper Triangle Quilt Modern Baby Quilt Blue & Green Grey & White Herringbone Quilt I'm kind of all over the place with the styles I'm looking at, but I do like the more subtle ones and will probably go with a solid color blanket... we shall see. Have a great week!

I know that I've used this story before, but I've seriously had a bad case of blogger's block for the past week or so. I've had the urge to connect and share with all, but just can't think of a worthy topic! :( Long story short, I called over to my parent's house to pick their brains for worthy blog topics, my Dad thought I should let everyone know that he is home (in California) for my sister's wedding on Saturday...and my Momma thought I should share the Moda Bake Shop with all (just in case you haven't already discovered it!). Technically I've satisfied both of their suggestions! :) The Moda Bake Shop is a regularly updated blog that provides free online 'recipes' (patterns/tutorials) from an assortment of designers and shops. All of the recipes feature Moda's pre-cut fabric packs (charm packs, dessert rolls, honey buns, jelly rolls, layer cakes, and turnovers). (Source) Recently this Candy Hearts Quilt (pictured above), and designed by Gigi's Thimble was posted to the Bake Shop- how cute and perfect is this quilt! My Momma is making the Candy Hearts Quilt for a baby girl (who has yet to make her grand appearance) using the Blush Basic Grey charm pack for the for the hearts (the background, rick rac, and fabric for the horizontal strips have not yet been selected). I love making baby quilts, although am 100% over making this pattern (#1 and 2, 3, 4), if all goes well with the Candy Hearts Quilt (I offered to by my Momma's assistant), perhaps it will be my 'go to' baby girl quilt pattern! I'll let you know how it is to cut out and sew 35 hearts!
