Penguins in New Zealand were affected by a recent oil spill, and covered with its effects. To help keep them warm, and to prevent them from pecking at the oil until they can be cleaned off, people have been knitting them sweaters. Seriously, this made my entire morning. Helping animals impacted by an ecological disaster + extraordinarily adorable = good morning.

As you may be aware the oil spill & potential disastrous effects to wildlife & environment off the coast of Tauranga is frightening. A small number of little blue penguins have already been caught in the oil spilled to date with growing fears that more will be effected. Skeinz has been asked to help with the penguin relief by knitting small Penguin PJ’s to help protect the birds & prevent them from preening their feather & ingesting the toxic oil. If you can help out by knitting a penguin jumper – send them to Skeinz at PO Box 3123, Onekawa, Napier, New Zealand Yes, this is real... now go knit some penguin sweaters! This link will take you to the pattern.

If you thought the hens in jumpers were adorable, prepare to pass out from cuteness with these penguins in sweaters. A New Zeland yarn store is calling for knitters to whip out their needles in an effort to provide sweater vests to penguins affected by an oil spill. A yarn store in New Zealand made an unusual request that seemed to pull at the heart-strings of the entire world…They asked people to sew knit sweaters for penguins affected by the country’s oil spill, and have now hit a ‘critical mass’ of jumpers. The “penguin jumpers” are intended to keep the birds warm until they are well enough to be scrubbed down and to prevent them from consuming oil on their feathers while preening.

I really want to see Disneyworld in Florida! Mom and Dad say: "No...it's Too Hot...too far away...too expensive to travel...impossible to swim there...etc, etc." I say: I THINK I CAN FLY. Are you with me or not?!
