An fun alternative to the traditional book report. The teacher provides each student with a white t-shirt. Kids design the T-shirt to represent their book and then have to pitch the book to their classmates without giving away the ending.
If only I taught reading: Use paint swatches to give to students as bookmarks. As they read a book, they get a hole punched. It is also a good goal setter: They can try to read that many books per month. (Good way to track books the kids finish at home)
Tournament of Kids Books-- To celebrate March Madness, 16 favorite kids books face off bracket style. I'm going to do this next year. I'll be sure to save 16 of the read alouds we've done by then and then have our own March Madness.
What a cute project idea.Biography or character report. LOVE IT! For all of my teacher friends. Money is tight these days. A very good alternative to dressing up like the person! Would have never thought this idea!
Could use for whole group or writing station.Story Bags - put a few random items in a paper bag, and kids can write creative stories about them! (Could have 1 kid each week be responsible for bringing in items)
The Pragmatic Mom has it right . These are 23 GREAT picture books for kids in fourth and fifth grade! Picture books are such a powerful way to teach language in bite size portions. Even graders still love listening to a good story.
Angry verbs board - teaching kids about verbs! I think I'm going to do "Angry Birds Learn Their Verbs!" and that way it will make sense that the verbs themselves aren't angry words. My students love Angry Birds!
