"I'd love to be a star, but I don't know that I have enough ambition, or 'artistic zeal,' to achieve that. The main advantage, as I see it, would be money enough to buy all the clothes - and books - I want. But then, on the other hand, to have to walk in a perpetual spotlight in public, as the stars do - I wouldn't like that." -- Virginia Bruce in 1929. U.K. Miss Hilda Trevelyan vintage postcard 1906. Hilda Trevelyan (1877 – 1959) was an English actress. Early in her career she became known for her performance in plays by J M Barrie, and is probably best remembered for creating the role of Wendy in Peter Pan.

Cause of death: heart attack at 91.

Vintage Girl, Bow Lip, Vintage Photos, 1920S Makeup, Compson 1920, Betty Compson, Vintage Portrait
vintage photo---Probably 20's going by the hairstyle and makeup choices. Note the Cupid bow lips and thin arched brows. She's Gorgeous!
Betty Compson A very good reference for one style of 1920s makeup, particularly the lip shape, which can be hard for us to duplicate now as we’re used to a much different application. She hasn’t really added much kohl to the eyes, but there’s clearly a lot of powder and a very defined lip shape…eyebrows somewhat shaped but not quite as pencil thin as some of the 30s styles.
Makeup was popular in the 1920s and didn't carry any association with loose women. Egyptian-inspired eyeliner was popular, as well as the "Cupid's Bow" lips seen here. The lips were painted to appear like a heart, with two dramatic peaks on top. Betty Compson (1897-1974)

Betty Davis http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/books/article-496080/Torment-Bette-Davis-eyes.html
"The star of films including Of Human Bondage and All About Eve, Bette Davis had expressive eyes—the sort some might call bugged—that allowed her to portray dark, complex characters. "Bette Davis' eyes were not only extraordinarily large, they were also preternaturally blue," says Fisher, who adds that our minds respond very strongly to anything new, so truly unique features will make a lasting impression." By Jessica Miller Elizabeth Taylor was an American actress and a film icon from the classic Hollywood era. The Hollywood legend was well known for her violet eyes that stood out as much as her beauty and talent. In fact, she had a "genetic mutation," also known as distichiasis, which means that she had an extra set of eyelashes. The accessory row of eyelashes captivated Taylor's deep violet eyes and gave the effect of wearing an intense mascara. On the set of Roddy McDowall, Elizabeth Taylor, only 13, someone said "Get that girl off the set- she has too much eye make-up on, too much mascara," recalls J Randy Taraborelli's biography of Taylor. (Only later did they find out on the set that Liz had no mascara on but a double set of eye lashes.) Below you will find some photos that managed to capture her trademark-her amazing violet eyes.
