Jean Arthur explains why you’re ruined for love: “I have never had a single close intimate girlfriend in all my life. I never had a chum to whom I could confide all my secrets. I suppose this accounts for the fact that now it is so painfully difficult for me to open my heart. You have to learn so very young to open your heart.”

https://flic.kr/p/8kFuSC | Jean Arthur | During the late 1930s to early 1940s, it was common for manufacturers of picture frames to put photos of movies stars inside the frame as a marketing/advertising strategy. I've been told that this is one such photo, which was subsequently signed by Jean in the early 1940s. The paper is thin and somewhat fragile, but it is in terrific condition and Jean's (relatively rare) autograph is clear and bold.

Jean Arthur was once arrested for trespass because she repeatedly snuck into a neighbour's yard to care for an abused dog. Oh, and she also discovered an actress called Meryl Streep - heard of her? :)

Jean Arthur -- on an Art Deco throne. Love her in so many things, but my favorite is probably "The More the Merrier." ['Talk of the Town' and 'You Can't Take it With You' are wonderful runners-up; and I guess I can't leave out "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town" among her best performances.
