Art installation: Chinese artist Wang Zhiyuan’s "Thrown to the Wind" 37-Foot-Tall Trash Tornado Spirals Into the Sky - made entirely from trash. Zhiyuan witnesses the garbage and pollution that litters the streets of his hometown of Beijing. He brings his concerns to the forefront through art. Great way to draw attention to an issue!

Things Organized Neatly--"Beijing-based artist Wang Zhiyuan piece entitled Thrown to the Wind ascends 36 feet into the air. Zhiyuan’s tornado of plastic waste is a reminder of the trash that overwhelms his hometown and it’s surrounding environment. It pretty much speaks to anyone - the reality is that we are all living with it the effects of non-disposable waste.
Beijing-based artist, Wang Zhiyuan, creates towering tornado sculptures from hundreds of plastic containers discarded as trash. The artist’s intent is to create something visually appealing while highlighting the prevalence of litter and pollution in his hometown of Beijing. This particular outdoor piece is entitled Thrown to the Wind and is 36-feet high.

What Happens When You Give Kids Thousands of Stickers. In December, at an inter-active installation for the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane, artist Yayoi Kusama created a brilliantly white environment (a blank canvas) where over the course of two weeks children who visited were given thousands of colored dot stickers and were invited to collaborate in the transformation of the space. The installation is entitled The Obliteration Room.

Artist Yayoi Kusama created a truly fantastic do-it-yourself art installation for children. The installation, entitled The Obliteration Room, is part of Kusama’s Look Now, See Forever exhibition. “What happens if you give a thousand stickers to a thousand kids?” All colored dots together create an amazing room that is hard to recognize for someone who has only seen the exhibition room in its initial state. This is What Happens When You Give Thousands of Stickers to Thousands of Kids This December, in a surprisingly simple yet ridiculously amazing installation for the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane, artist Yayoi Kusama constructed a large domestic environment, painting every wall, chair, table, piano, and household decoration a brilliant white, effectively serving as a giant white canvas. Over the course of two weeks, the museum’s smallest visitors were given thousands upon thousands of colored dot stickers and were invited to collaborate in the transformation of the space, turning the house into a vibrantly mottled explosion of color. -Yayoi Kusama obliteration room
Ever wonder what would happen if you gave your kids thousands of stickers and complete freedom? Then you have to see these cool pictures taken in the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane. Artist Yayoi Kusama recreated Australian domestic environment, complete with locally sourced furniture and ornamentation, all of which has been painted completely white to serve as a giant white canvas. The museum’s smallest visitors were then given thousands of colored dot stickers and invited to transform the space. As with many of Kusama’s works, the current installation entitled The Obliteration Room is “disarmingly simple in its elemental composition; however, it brilliantly exploits the framework of its presentation”. It is also part of Kusama’s Look Now, See Forever exhibition running trough March 12.

Brazilian-born painter and sculptor, Henrique Oliveira. #HenriqueOliveira #sculpture #tree #installation
Henrique Oliveira is a Brazilian artist who creates amazing wooden sculptures that are designed as if to appear like they are breaking through the ceilings and walls of their confines. Henrique only uses salvaged wood, but manages to create some astounding organic forms.
Brazilian artist Henrique Oliveira became internationally recognised by his environmentally friendly installations, and know one more time he fascinate us with his vision of disembodied tree trunks that disturbingly connected with the very place where they are. Whatever how creepy they look like, these tridimensional works of art actually represent an effortless fusion of sculpture, painting, architecture, and the creative imagination of Oliveira himself.
Trees Burst Through Gallery Walls and Ceilings Brazilian artist Henrique Oliveira’s powerful recycled wood art installations snake through their exhibition spaces like massive living trees that burst out of walls and through ceilings. Oliveira scours the streets of Sao Paulo to gather plywood, which he then separates into layers and combines to create his massive “tridimensionals” sculptures. The stunning mixed media pieces are a combination of sculpture, painting and architecture.

The artist photographs outdated abandoned and obsolete books but only after transforming them into exquisite sculptural objects. Coiled and crumpled they segue into a considered commentary on the changing role of libraries societys relationship with how it accesses and values knowledge and in a technology advanced world her work questions the future of the book itself. Ideal Bookshelf 1, JMM by Jane Mount ARTIST STATEMENT For a while, I've been documenting people's bookshelves as a form of portraiture; you can actually learn a lot about folks by their books' covers. Now, I'm working on a series of "ideal" bookshelves: sets of favorites—mine or someone else's—amalgamated in a picture, even if they don't usually live on shelves anywhere near each other. Deliberately grouping the books—instead of painting them as they are serendipitously found—makes me focus much more on the physical books themselves, and in particular, the design of the spines. It's such a small place for a lot of information, with very little room for distinct characteristics, even though it's exactly what you use to identify books. As someone who does a lot of design work, I love the process of turning graphic design into art. And I love that a book is something created very personally and then mass-produced in order to affect many other people very personally. I group and paint them to turn them back into something very personal and intimate. This set happens to be a grouping of my favorite children's books; I’ve been more influenced by books I read as a kid than books from any other time in my life.

Scott Weaver, with 100 000 toothpicks and 35 years. And it moves!
Artist Scott Weaver has worked over 35 years on this insanely complex kinetic sculpture, Rolling through the Bay, that he continues to modify and expand even today. The elaborate sculpture is comprised of multiple “tours” that move pingpong balls through neighborhoods, historical locations, and iconic symbols of San Francisco, all recreated with a little glue, some toothpicks, and an incredible amount of ingenuity. He admits in the video that there are several toothpick sculptures even larger than his, but none has the unique kinetic components he’s constructed. Via his website Weaver estimates he’s spent over 3,000 hours on the project, and the toothpicks have been sourced from around the world: I have used different brands of toothpicks depending on what I am building. I also have many friends and family members that collect toothpicks in their travels for me. For example, some of the trees in Golden Gate Park are made from toothpicks from Kenya, Morocco, Spain, West Germany and Italy. The heart inside the Palace of Fine Arts is made out of toothpicks people threw at our wedding.
