Hans Speidel was a German general during WW2 & the first German senior NATO commander. He was a nationalist, professional soldier, & agreed with some aspects of Nazi policies,but was appalled by Germany's racial policies. He took part in the plot to kill Hitler in 1944 & barely escaped death at the hands of the Gestapo. After the war, he returned to the army & was appointed C-in-C of Allied ground forces, Central Europe in April 1957, a command he held until retirement in September 1963.

The engines would conk out halfway through flights, so they climbed out on the wings mid flight to restart the props. The planes were so noisy that to stop Germans from hearing them coming they’d climb up to a certain height, coast down to german positions, drop their bombs and then restart their engines in midair.

Erwin Rommel was the most famous German field marshall of WWII. The Allies were closing in on Rommel’s Corps he ordered 4 SS divers to bury a German treasure w/in 6 steel ammo boxes. The treasure made up of precious stones, gold silver bullion. It is apparently located in an underwater cavern off the east coast of Corsica. In 2007, historians treasure hunters were examinng a photo of a German soldier that has a written code of the location of Rommel’s treasure. Read more
