Rodin - The Thinker - Conceived 1880 (enlarged 1902-4); cast 1925 by Alexis Rudier Foundry. The figure was intended to represent Italian poet Dante Alighieri pondering The Divine Comedy, his epic story of Paradise and Inferno. However, in 1889 Rodin exhibited the sculpture independently of The Gates, giving it the title "The Thinker", and in 1902 he embarked on this larger version

Rodin ( and don't forget Camille ... She would do the hands. He used her. No Credit. It can drive an artist Mad, to have another sign their name to a sincere and real collaboration -- born of intention, or born 'by accident'. A collaboration is a collaboration.

I would give my eye teeth to own this piece. No one sculpted hands like Rodin. He spent years studying the anatomy of hands, and did a number of small pieces of them.
