I like this photo of one of my favorite photographers, Richard Avedon, because it is taken by another of my favorite photographers, John Loengard. Loengard published a book "Age of Silver" of photographs he took of other photographers and their famous negatives.

During WWII, Jews in Budapest were brought to the edge of the Danube, they were ordered to remove their shoes, and shot, falling into the water. 60 pairs of iron shoes now line the river's bank, a ghostly memorial to the victims. The memorial entitled ''Shoes on the Danube Promenade'' is by Can Togay and Gyula Pauer.

“Holocaust Memorial on the Danube, Budapest, Hungary”. The shoes on the Danube promenade honors the jews who were killed by fascist Arrow Cross militiamen in Budapest during World War II.
