Stone Soup (Aladdin Picture Books) by Marcia Brown. This story, about three hungry soldiers who outwit the greedy inhabitants of a village into providing them with a feast, is based on an old French tale.

This is a really cool project-based approach to the story "Stone Soup." The class read different versions of the story and then made and ate their own stone soup and wrote their own version of the story. Students could do a lot of research on legends and traditions, as well as about recipes and cookbooks and how to make soup.
