    Today is the birthday of William Cuthbert Faulkner (1897 – 1962). He was an American writer and Nobel Prize laureate. Faulkner worked in a variety of written media, including novels, short stories, a play, poetry, essays and screenplays. He was awarded the 1949 Nobel Prize for Literature for "his powerful and artistically unique contribution to the modern American novel."
