Greek myth and ugly truths are entwined throughout Scott Turow's 10th novel, "Identical." In 1982, during a Greek New Year picnic at the estate of powerful businessman and likely gubernatorial candidate Zeus Kronon, his daughter Dita (short for Aphrodite) is brutally murdered. And my mother's people were very very fair. I was always sort of in between. I was too tall. My voice was too heavy. My attitude was too arrogant – or tenderhearted. So if I had accepted what people told me I looked like as a negative yes, then I would be dead. But I accepted it and I thought, well, aren't I the lucky one.

"Courage is probably the most important of the virtues, because without courage you cannot practice any of the other virtues, you can’t say against a murderous society, I oppose your murdering. You got to have courage to do so. I seem to have known that a long time and found great joy in it." - Conversations with Maya Angelou

Conversations with Maya Angelou (an interview with Bill Moyers, edited by Jeffrey M. Elliott): "I’ve always had the feeling that life loves the liver of it. You must live and life will be good to you, give you experiences. They may not all be that pleasant, but nobody promised you a rose garden. But more than likely if you do dare, what you get are the marvelous returns." <3 <3 <3!!!

1/28/2014 Wiley Cash's debut, hailed as "mesmerizing" (New York Times Book Review) and "as if Cormac McCarthy decided to rewrite To Kill a Mockingbird" (Richmond Times-Dispatch), made him a literary sensation. His new novel is a tale of love and atonement, a story of two sisters, a wayward father, and an enemy determined to see him pay. When their mother dies unexpectedly, twelve-year-old Easter and six-year-old Ruby are shuffled into foster care.

This Dark Road to Mercy: A Novel by Wiley Cash I guess this would be considered Gothic. All the elements are here for a thrilling drama: a multimillion dollar armored car robbery, children in danger, a psychopath with an ax to grind. But, for me at least, this story never really pans out-I guess it is a decent enough read but it was certainly nothing special.
This Dark Road to Mercy: A Novel by Wiley Cash -- I love a good gothic, and especially a Southern one. I read his first a few months ago and really enjoyed it.
