A Clockwork Orange - Anthony Burgess. - A gruesomely witty cautionary tale Time Every generation should discover this book Time Out Not only about man's violent nature and his capacity to choose between good and evil. It is about the excitements and intoxicating effects of language
A Clockwork Orange - Anthony Burgess. Cover by David Pelham, illustrator and former art director at Penguin books
A Clockwork Orange by Anthony burgess I like this particular book cover because of it's use of bold illustrative colour it's simple and clear.
Georgia says: "A Clockwork Orange, Anthony Burgess (1962) but the 1972 cover designed by David Pelham, which has become truly iconic. This is a unique novel that, thanks to Stanley Kubrick's 1971 film, has become a fundamental cultural touchstone, and this cover evokes that aesthetic so is instantly recognisable and taps into the squeamish eye motif of the narrative."

Holden Caulfield, Banned Book, High School, Reading List, Booksbooksbook, Favorite Books, Books Book
J.D. Salinger: The Catcher in the Rye book cover THE CATCHER IN THE RYE is an ancient child of sixteen, a native New Yorker named Holden Caulfield. Through circumstances that tend to preclude adult, secondhand description, he leaves his prep school in Pennsylvania and goes underground in New York City for three days.
Since his debut in 1951 as The Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield has been synonymous with "cynical adolescent." Holden narrates the story of a couple of days in his sixteen-year-old life, just after he's been expelled from prep school, in a slang that sounds edgy even today and keeps this novel on banned book lists.
It's pretty much a high school reading requirement now, but this book is still one of my top all time faves. Scary how I used to relate so well to antihero Holden Caulfield!
Since its publication in 1951, 'The Catcher in the Rye' has been a focal point for censorship. One of the most recent attempts to remove it from a school reading list was in 2009 at the Big Sky High School in Missoula, Montana.
Since its publication in 1951, 'The Catcher in the Rye' has been a focal point for censorship. One of the most recent attempts to remove it from a school reading list was in 2009 at the Big Sky High School in Missoula, Montana. This book can be found at the Giovale Library at PS 3537 .A426 C3526 1951.
I've never understood parents wanting to ban this book from high school libraries and literature reading lists. Whenever I've asked many of them if they're read it, they say no, "but I've heard a lot of negative things." The story of a troubled teenager, Holden Caulfield, "The Catcher in the Rye" is on my list of books I read every few years. Like many fans of Salinger, I try and keep the popularity fires burning!
