Letters from Father Christmas;Tolkien wrote letters to his children every year as Santa, telling them about his life at the North Pole.
This is one of my all-time favorite Christmas books: “When John (Tolkien’s son) was 3 he got his first letter from Father Christmas. From 1920 until 1943 Tolkien wrote letters, as Father Christmas, to his children. They were accompagnied by lots of funny pictures. The Father Christmas Letters contains most of these letters and most illustrations (most in colour).”
Letters from Father Christmas by J.R.R. Tolkien: Every December, the children of the beloved author received a special letter containing wonderful stories from the North Pole. J. R. R. #Tolkien - my favorite author. the universe he created, with all its characters, places, events, has comforted me through all these years and filled my life with joy
John Ronald Reuel "J.R.R" Tolkien, CBE (1/3/1892-9/2/1973) was an English writer, poet, philologist, & university professor, best known as the author of the classic high fantasy works The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, & The Silmarillion. While many other authors had published works of fantasy before Tolkien, the success of The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings led to a resurgence of the genre, causing Tolkien to be identified as the "father" of high fantasy literature.
stoneofthehapless: The man himself, J.R.R. Tolkien Fun Facts: Tolkien met his wife, Edith Mary Bratt, after moving into the boarding house where she was also staying. He was just sixteen years old, and she was three years his senior. They fell in love over the summer, but Tolkien’s guardian, Father Francis Morgan, disapproved greatly, since Edith was Protestant and Tolkien was a Catholic. He forbid Tolkien to talk, meet, or even correspond with her until he was twenty-one years
Tolkien - Author of the 20th century. The Lord of the Rings was outsold only by the bible! I love LOTR, it is #1 on my list of all time favorite books. I'm trying to learn Quenya, the Elvish language Tolkien created (one of five he created!) - how could I ever have another favorite author? If only I had a time machine ... First editions would be a priority for me ... And a visit to the pub where 'The Inklings' (his group of fellow writers, including CS Lewis) met to crit each others work.

hobbitmoments: Day 22, year 2 - Thank you, Professor Tolkien. Today is, of course, the birthday of J.R.R. Tolkien and however you choose to mark the occasion I’d heartily encourage you to be grateful and to think - to take a few moments to think of all the parts of your life that would be different had it not been because of the writing of this one man. Think of…. The friends you’ve made because of Tolkien. The people who you’ve come to love and value. The places you’ve travelled to. The things you’ve done, the things you’ve tried, the things you’ve seen. The movies and books - not just those directly linked to Tolkien, but all those who were inspired by Tolkien - that you’ve thrilled to and enjoyed. The games you’ve played. The art that has been created. The music that has been written. The ways you’ve been inspired. Think….and remember that none of this would have happened had it not been for the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien. Think, be grateful and wish him a very happy birthday indeed. Thank you, Professor Tolkien.

Unfinished Tales of Numenor and Middle Earth ~ This is actually my favorite Tolkien book!
Gigantic Reading, Reading Mood, Tolkien Book, Lord Of The Rings, Eye
Unfinished Tales is a collection of narratives ranging in time from the Elder Days of Middle-earth to the end of the War of the Ring, and provides those who have read The Lord of the Rings with a whole collection of background and new stories from the twentieth century's most acclaimed popular author. T
The book concentrates on the realm of Middle-earth and comprises such elements as Gandalf's lively account of how it was that he came to send the Dwarves to the celebrated party at Bag-End, the emergence of the sea-god Ulmo before the eyes of Tuor on the coast of Beleriand, and an exact description of the military organization of the Riders of Rohan.

I read the trilogy when I was 12 and have re-read them several times. The phrasing is pure prose. This book cover is from J.R.R. Tolkien's art.
The Lord of the Rings: the first edition that I owned and read. It only included the Tale of Aragorn and Arwen from the Appendices. It was the one that really started me on my continuing journey into Middle-earth.

“Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisoned by the enemy, don't we consider it his duty to escape?. . .If we value the freedom of mind and soul, if we're partisans of liberty, then it's our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can!” - J.R.R. “ . . . in the days when a family had fed on the produce of the same few miles of country for six generations, and that perhaps was why they saw nymphs in the fountains and dryads in the wood – they were not mistaken for there was in a sense real (not metaphorical) connections between them and the countryside. What had been earth and air and later corn, and later still bread, really was in them. . . We are synthetic men, uprooted. The strength of the hills is not ours.” - J.R.R. Tolkien
