Remember the baby dish that you filled with hot water to keep the food warm? OMG, yes. I did this for my kids.
I love vintage recipes, they're a great way to shake things up in the kitchen because they come to you complete with a whole different set of food rules and values. This one for Old Fashioned Spiced Crab Apples goes back to the days when families would scrimp and scrounge to use or preserve every bit of food available to them, including the scrawny crab apples from the front yard tree. Remember "Baton Twirling?" you would practice and practice... quite often you would drop it on your foot, or on the ground; if you threw it in the air and missed catching it, it would either hit the ground or your face.:-)
