Elephants have been known to die of broken hearts if a mate dies. They refuse to eat and will lay down, shedding tears until they starve to death. They refuse all human help. Scientists are beginning to believe that animals do have emotions and that their feelings may be more intense and unfiltered than our own.
Elephant Shrew: The short eared elephant shrew lives in the deserts of southwestern Africa. Different species vary in the length of their trunks which they are able to twist in search of food. Recent genetic research supports the idea that they are more closely related to elephants than true shrews! by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elephant_shrew. Photo by Richard001 #Elelphant_Shrew
