I read this when I was in high school. Loved it! I hope to reread it again.

Steinbeck was a master at letting the story have the stage. Writerly flourishes? Newp. Complex narrative structure? None of that either. Raw power? Check!

This is a classic story of sisterly love, compassion and goodness. It was also one of the first novels that I read to myself as a little girl.

Tough times for the Okies'. Didn't know there was a good Henry Fonda flick until years after I read this one. I always imagined a dirtier more dusty trip than what the film showed.
