Titanic infographic / This isn't a book, but really interesting stories. Especially that of William T. Stead. What I want to know is: if he went to sit and read a book while the ship sank after all the boats had gone, how did anyone know he did this?
The Titanic, registered as a British mail ship was really owned by the American railroad tycoon, John Pierpont Morgan. He acquired the White Star Line in 1902. He had his very own private suite and promenade deck on the Titanic. He was supposed to join her for her maiden voyage but cancelled his passage, sparing him the fate of many of the other millionaires.
Titanic Captain Edward J Smith was considered known for his quiet flamboyance some passengers would only sail on the boats he captained. He was a Captain of the English Naval Reserve. He is believed to have died when trying to make contact with neighboring ships in the ship's telegraph room.
