    1933 Dymaxion ~ The Dymaxion car was designed by Buckminster Fuller in the early 1930s. Its name was a composite of the words ‘dynamic’, ‘maximum’ and ‘ion.’ The three-wheeled Dymaxion Car had rear steering and front-wheel drive powered by a Ford engine. The car could transport up to 11 passengers, reach speeds of up to 90mph, and ran 30 miles to the gallon.

    1928 Martin Aerodynamic.Built by Martin Aircraft Company of Garden City, New York, its pontoon-shaped underbody, fully covered rear wheels, gently sloping nose, and tapering rear body were unusually efficient for the day and enabled the car to reach a high 107 miles per hour in testing.The one-of-a-kind car cost a staggering $17,000 to build and is powered by a four-cylinder, water-cooled rear-mounted engine.
