Vaslaw Nijinsky "Die Tanzerin" Russian Dancer Vaslaw Nijinsky (1889 – 1950) burst onto the European stage in 1909 and established himself as one of the premier dancers of the 20th century. His career as a dancer and choreographer is well known to dance aficionados. Less well-known is a body of modern art that he created in 1918 and 1919 that uses geometric abstraction to explore motion and rhythm.
