Help students self-assess their proficiency. Using standards-based grading of 1, 2, 3, 4....Novice = 1, Apprentice = 2, Practitioner = 3, Expert = 4. Teachers can check for understanding before, during, and after a lesson asking students to provide a number self-assessment.

I like this a lot because (1) you can align them to standards and (2) they are big enough to see from the whole room, and (3) you can file them for the next year by standard!

Hey Girl, I love that you write the learning objective on the board every day. I get excited about where we're headed and am so motivated to work hard and get there.

Goals/Objectives. Have a display on hand that is easy to change. Make the changes to it every day, and take a picture before the day begins. "A visual day by day for the whole school year"

Modify w/ HS ELA strands: reading, language, writing, speaking & listening--posting would help keep me focused, too!

Students need to know what is expected of them so that they are given direction and they know what it is they should be aiming to achieve by the end of each lesson.
