Mmm... Quenepas!! Puertorican fruit
An exotic fruit from Columbia called "mamoncillo". Apparently it's delicious, though I haven't tried it yet!
Mamoncillos are somewhat like a cross between a lychee and a lime, has a tight and thin, but rigid layer of skin, traditionally cracked by the teeth. Inside the skin is the tart, tangy, creamy pulp, which is sucked (hence the name mamoncillo as mamar means "to suck") because the seed takes most of the volume of what is inside the skin. [AKA: Mamones, mamoncillos, guinepes, kinnips, quenepas, quenneps, limoncillos, ackees, chenettes] I brought back bag when I went to Nicaragua.
The Guinep fruit typically ripen during the summer. The fruit is related to the lychee and have tight, thin but rigid skins. Inside the skin is the tart, tangy, or sweet pulp of the fruit covering a large seed. The pulp is usually cream or orange coloured.
