robfromamersfoort (33 months ago | reply) It is indeed shot in 1855 (or maybe 1854). This is Mrs Rogers, a nurse during the Crimean War (like Florence Nightingale). She was the wife of a soldier, and she was nursing, washing and cooking under severe circumstances.
Robert Dotson and Buffalo Bill Cody. This scan is of an old tintype photo that was in a family collection. According to family stories the clean-shaven gentleman on the right is Robert B. Dotson (b. 1840 Crawford County, MO; d.1903 Crawford County, MO; served in the Civil War in the Kansas Infantry for the Union side), and the gentleman on the left with the beard is Buffalo Bill Cody (who also served in the Kansas infantry during the civil war.
Barney Ford was born a slave in Virginia. At the age of twenty-fire, he escaped and began a successful career in a variety of entrepreneurial ventures.By 1860, he was living in Denver and became a prosperous tycoon in the hotel, restaurant, and barbershop businesses, earning the nickname the "Black Baron of Colorado." Throughout the Civil War, he gave financial assistance, food, and jobs to escaped and free African Americans.
War to Prevent Southern Independence era children- the father is absent because he was killed in battle at Cold Harbor by Lincoln's Army. The mother was murdered by Sherman's men. So sad. And all to enforce the Morrill tariff act against the south.
