Self-portrait - Van Gogh ["Franco is more of a VAN GOGH, MONET creature; there is no sure fact of anything, and all must continue to be questioned; a philosopher. I am very much a scientist: point A leads to point B, and so forth-." -Asha *"Detours, Asha, detours." "And detours only lead to more chaos, as others have refused to take responsibility for their steps."
Iconic Van Gogh ~ 'Starry Night' (1889) depicts the view outside Van gogh's sanitorium room window at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, at night. Made even more famous by singer, Don McLean's 1971 song, 'Vincent' (Starry, Starry Night). I've seen the original ~ these stars throb with energy!
In a letter to his brother Theo in 1882, Van Gogh wrote: "There are but three fundamental colours – red, yellow, and blue; 'composites' are orange, green, and purple. By adding black and some white one gets the endless varieties of greys – red grey, yellow-grey, blue-grey, green-grey, orange-grey, violet-grey. It is impossible to say, for instance, how many green-greys there are; there is an endless variety. But the whole chemistry of colours is not more complicated than those few simple rules.
Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890) was a Dutch painter regarded as one of the greatest painters the world has ever seen. His paintings have immensely contributed to the foundations of modern art. He is thought to have lived with either bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, with his depression ultimately leading to his suicide. (Photo by Victor Morin, 1886.)
