While in jail she received the Nobel Peace Prize. She has struggled with great grace and resolve, but without violence, for democracy in Burma for many years. She was released from arrest in 2010 and plans to run for president in 2015.

Aung San Suu Kyi (b 1945) Burmese opposition politican, kept under house arrest for 15 years before becoming an MP in Burma in 2012. Multi award winning including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991.

Aung San Suu Kyi was the core of Burma's democracy movement, and still plays huge role politically in Burma today. She was imprisoned in her home under house arrest for supporting democracy, and was released a couple of years ago. She was also a Nobel Peace Prize winner.
