I think each hex triangle starts out with 2 different rectangles, sewed corner to corner (like HST), then trimmed to a 60 degree triangle - still working on figuring this out, but website has some clues

Buy vintage lace and sew onto your pillow cases. I've done that with table clothes and given them as gifts. Wonderful look. Biddy Craft
