How to dry hydrangeas: Pick flowers when in full bloom, ideally nearer to the end of their season when the stems have become stiff and woody, and the flower heads are firmer. Stand them in a vase in roughly 1cm of water in a spot where the air circulates freely. Allow the water to evaporate, so that the heads can dry slowly – this should take around six weeks.
