"Princess Maria Amélia of Brazil", 1845-47, by Franz Xavier Winterhalter (German, 1805-1873). The young princess wears a white silk dress with a wide oval neckline. Two overlapping frills come down to the waist, from which starts a pleated skirt. Over her shoulder she wears the imperial mantle lined with ermine. The princess also uses a double pearl necklace and earrings. The teen's face is framed by hair parted in the middle and drawn over her ears, with an ornamental flower on one side.
