Socotra Island, off the coast of Yemen. It’s been called the most Alien-looking place on Earth. Socotra is one of the most isolated land-masses on Earth that was once part of a continent. (In other words, it wasn’t formed by a volcano.) It has been disconnected from the main land for 6 million years, which has given evolution plenty of time to chart its own course without any influence from most common species found on continental land masses.
Oak Alley Plantation, Vacherie, LA. Oak Alley Plantation (L'Allée des chênes) was named for a remarkable quarter-mile double row of 28 live oaks, planted in the early 1700's by a French settler. The trees extended from the main house down to the shore of the Mississippi River.
