Tomato Paste Saver: Most recipes call for only a small portion of tomato paste -- you use a tablespoon or two, and the rest invariably goes to waste. To save the remainder: Carefully open both ends of the can with a can opener. Remove one metal end, and discard it. Leave the other in place. Wrap the entire can in plastic wrap, and freeze overnight. The next day, use the metal end to push the frozen paste out the open end. Discard can, tightly rewrap unused portion, and store in freezer up to 3 months, slicing off just as much as you need each time you cook. (found here: www.marthastewart...)

DIY wallflower refills using essential oils. Cheap & no chemicals!
do it yourself refills i’m about to get hippie on you all. plugin air fresheners (and tons of other stuff) have something called VOC in them. VOC stands for “volatile organic compounds” and they are highly toxic. they are chemicals with a low boiling point. VOC cause all sorts of problems in your body: infertility (some of you may like that!), headaches, nervous system disorders, memory loss and cancer for both your pet and you…. lots of things. i was bummed when i learned about this and unplugged mine. being a packrat i couldn’t bring myself to toss it out and thought, maybe i’ll just plug it in for the holidays and poison my loved ones only a few times a year. then i had a bright idea: replace the bad stuff with good stuff: essential oils, which are awesome for you and, sometimes a lot cheaper than the liquid cancer bath and body works sells. here’s how you do it. . remove the wick part (which ironically looks like a cigarette) empty and rinse out the bulb . find an oil you like. i chose peppermint because its pretty cheap and it makes my house smell cool and clean. i highly recommend orange, lavender, cinnamon, roman chamomile, clary sage, lemon, rose, grapefruit, jasmine or ylang ylang oil. . pour the oil into the bulb . i fill it up about 1/3 of the way but it will last lay longer if you do the whole thing. . fill the rest of the bulb with water, but not to the top or else inserting the wick with make it spill. put the wick back in the bulb. . screw it back into the plug in part and enjoy refreshing, healing air that won’t make your hair fall out.

How to clean microfiber furniture- found this on another site when my daughter took a purple pen to our microfiber dining chairs! It actually worked! (And worked again a week later when she took a pen to our microfiber sofa!!)
CLEAN MICROFIBER SOFA: Vacuum with brush attachment. Spray rubbing alcohol onto dirty area. Alcohol won't saturate fabric & evaporates much quicker than water so won't leave a mark. Rub vigorously with clean scrub sponge. Make sure scrubbing surface is white or color could transfer. Let area dry completely. Fabric may look stiff or dark in places. Rub with clean, soft scrub brush in circular motion. Be sure to use a brush with white bristles to avoid discoloration. This fluffs up the surface.

Unclog drain. Keep the plumber away- Natural Homemade Drain Cleaner 12 Aug posted by TidyMom 19 Comments Did you know that some Feng Shui masters say that clogged drains deplete finances, health, aspirations, travel, clog sinuses, and simply, wreak havoc in general. I don’t know about you……..but a clogged drain can be rather pesky and annoying, not to mention, rather costly if you have to call in a plumber. So to keep my life running smoothly, both literally and metaphorically, I look in my kitchen pantry for all the ingredients I need to unclog my pipes and I can do it without causing damage to the environment or my pocket book! Unclog a drain with Baking Soda and Vinegar Pour 3/4-1 cup of baking soda in the drain. Pour 1/2 cup vinegar in the drain and immediately cover the drain (I use a plug or set a plate over it – you want to keep everything inside the drain) Leave everything to sit and work for about 30 mins (don’t use the sink during this time) After 30 mins, remove the cover and let hot water run thru the pipes for about 2-3 mins. for really tough clogs you may need to repeat – but I find if I do this on a regular basis (about once a month) it keeps my drains clear and fresh with out any problems.
Homemade Drain Cleaner using white vinegar and baking soda. Instructions per blogger for unclogging drains and for freshening drains.
Best Natural Drain Cleaner need to mix 1/2 cup baking soda and 1/4 cup table salt the pour all this down the drain,Follow by pouring 1 cup of heated white vinegar next down the drain. It will foam and bubble but then leave it alone for about 15 mins. Now run hot water for about 30 seconds down this drain. Smell , your right it does no longer smell.
The next time you have green onions, don't throw away the white ends. Simply submerge them in a glass of water and place them in a sunny window. Your onions will begin to grow almost immediately and can be harvested almost indefinitely. We just use kitchen scissors to cut what we need for meals. I periodically empty out the water, rinse the roots off and give them fresh water.

I have gotten a lot of question about the bread on the cake. I am going to share with you one of the coolest tips I have. My mom taught me this years ago, and most people who come to my house and see it, do not believe that it works, but it does. I baked these cake layers the night before I was putting my cake together. I left them out on the counter with a slice of bread on top so that the cake layers would not become stale. The bread becomes hard as a rock, but the cake layers remain moist and as perfect as when I made them. I use this same trick with muffins, cupcakes, anything that I want to leave on the counter. Try it, it really does work.

Clean Washing Machine 1. Fill washer – add 2 cups white vinegar. Let set 1-2 hrs. Start washer, complete cycle. 2. If needed pour white on sponge & scrub tub. 3. Run cycle again clear water. 4. Fill washer again & add 2 cups bleach. Soak 1 hour. Run cycle. 5. Wash any items that need bleaching in first load.
Simple way to clean washing machine plus tons of other cleaning tips
Clean your washing machine. Step 1: Fill the washing machine up and pour in 2 cups of white vineagar. Let set for 1 hour. I think mine accidentally sat for 2 hours because I got busy doing stuff while Malea was napping. :) Step 2: Start the washing machine over again and let it run through a complete cycle. When I drained my washing machine it still had some grime on it so I got a sponge out and scrubbed it down really well. I added straight white vinegar to my sponge and the grime came off pretty easily. Look at how much better that is! Step 3: Fill washing machine up again and pour in 2 cups of bleach. (I only used about 1 cup) Step 4: Let it soak for 1 hour. While it was soaking I took out a couple of Q-Tips and detailed all the nooks and crannies of my washer. I seriously don't think it has been this clean since my dad bought it 15+ years ago! I even scrubbed the lid and all of the knobs! Nice and shiny again. Step 5: Restart washing machine and let it run through a complete cycle. I have to say I'm pretty happy with the results! Now that I know how easy this is to do I'd recommend (and will be doing it) washing your washing machine at least once a year. I think it's the perfect thing to add to your spring cleaning list!
