The Sparrow by Maria Doria Russell. I'm reading this right now and it's less Sci Fi than how it has been categorized by some. It's more of a mystery/religious quest. It's good.

The Sparrow, by Mary Doria Russell I loved this book. Literally, could not put it down. I would describe it but I'm afraid some people might be put off. As a science fiction lover, I was so excited to read a sci-fi book by a woman which upon review contained so many amazing characters. I chose this book for my book club and everyone enjoyed it. The conversation it sparked was centered on faith, science, anthropology... and so much more. Oh! The author is a graduate of Glenbard East!

Ok, on the surface, it's about Jesuit priests in space. Which is hard one to swallow, I know. But really, it's a meditation on faith and acceptance and wonder and absolutely worth reading even if you don't "do" science fiction.

One of my all-time favorite books, the only one I ever re-read the minute I finished it the first time. The Sparrow is about unintended consequences, compassion, appreciation for people of different faiths, and a Jesuit priest's trip to a distant planet.

Finished 6/14/14 - One of the strangest books I've ever read, yet it wasn't too bad. Moments dragged but then it would pick up. The end was definitely heart wrenching but made the journey through this book worth it.
