City of Thieves. This book starts out with a theif and a deserter who instaed of being executed are given a directive to secure a dozen eggs fro a soviet colonel to use in his daughter's wedding cake. Not an easy task.
If you like the World War II theme, then I suggest “City of Thieves” by David Benioff. It's set in Russia and is loosely based on the author’s grandfather’s experiences during World War II. It’s dramatic, suspenseful and an amusing read.
