WWI Zouaves were regiments were light infantry units of the French Army, zouaves normally served in French North Africa prior the war. Their early WW1 outfit was inspired by Algerian and Moroccan local troops. You didn’t have to come from there to serve in a zouave unit. In 1915, zouaves started to trade their original outfits to the blue horizons ones, better suited for trench warfare.
