This is a great historiographical masterwork by French-Canadian artist Guy Laramee entitled, The Great Wall. In this body of work Laramee stacks encyclopedias and other historical literature from which he carves out mountains, glacial landscapes, plateaus and deep valleys from ancient China.

Just when you start to think you're creative, Pinterest comes along and says, "Oh, yeah? Well, would YOU have ever thought of doing THIS?" There are some seriously creative people out there and I'm clearly not one of them. This book carving is cool. But I never would have thought of making one.

Carved Book Landscapes by Guy Laramee

Book creations by Guy Laramee. His works are so sculptural, so movingly natural in their form, they’ve really touched me. His works are inspired by a fascination with so-called progress in society: a thinking which says the book is dead, libraries are obsolete and technology is the only way of the future.

"Examining evolution through the dual lens of spirituality and science, Montreal-based book sculptor Guy Laramée creates miniature landscapes from antiquated paperbacks. Drawing upon over three decades of experience as an interdisciplinary artist (including a start as a music composer) and an education in anthropology, Laramée carves out an existentialist parallel between the erosion of geography and the ephemeral nature of the printed word."

This guys art is amazing. This piece reminds me of places I've seen hiking along the Cumberland Plateau.

LOVE the carved layers of this piece! Soooo beautiful! I want to make it!
