Lorenzo Duran uses fallen leaves as canvases. Before he begins work on a leaf, he first carefully washes, dries, and molds the leaf into a stable form. Then, with surgical precision, he cuts out nature-inspired motifs. Such detail within a very fragile surface! --wonderfully intricate

leave-art-cut-3 Leaf Art by extraordinary artist, Lorenzo Duran. He collects leaves and after gently washing them, cuts into them creating amazing artwork. Apparently, Lorenzo has been inspired by paper cutting from Switzerland, China, Japan and Germany. Above: Trees in Leaf Cut.

Species: Catalpa Bignonioides by Lorenzo Duran I saw a caterpillar eating a leaf and that small animal gave me the idea of cutting the leaves as it had been done with paper for so long; so, I studied that other technique first, until I developed my own "leaf cutting art" using a surgical scalpel.
