Researchers Discover Ancient Martian Supervolcano October 2, 2013 In a report that appeared in the journal Nature this week, scientists say they have discovered a supervolcano on Mars for the first time. The scientists determined that a vast circular basin on the face of the Red Planet is actually the remains of an ancient supervolcano eruption.
sunset on mars - "On May 19, 2005, NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Spirit captured this stunning view as the Sun sank below the rim of Gusev crater on Mars. This Panoramic Camera mosaic was taken around 6:07 in the evening of the rover's 489th Martian day, or sol."
Diamond Planet Discovered - An exoplanet made entirely of diamonds was discovered this year by an international research team. Approximately five times the size of Earth, the small planet had mass similar to that of Jupiter. Scientists believe the short distance from its star coupled with the exoplanet's mass means the planet, remnants of another star, is mostly crystalline carbon.
