KLH Model 17 was one of the best budget speakers, despite its crude appearance. An air suspension woofer and cone tweeter gave clean sound with a surprising level of detail. The cone tweeter had low distortion but lacked the airiness of better tweeters. Yet, the 17 didn't sound dull or muffled. Still popular today, they were the creation of Henry L. Kloss; KLH is his initials reversed.

I like the tuning port on this speaker enclosure. It would be easy to replicate this with a screw-in baffle and the cabinet edge rounded off with a plunge router.
